How WorkCalc UK handles information when you use our calculators and guides.

Last updated: 19 September 2026

The short version

  • The numbers you type into our calculators stay in your browser. They are not sent to us or stored.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages people use.
  • We may show adverts from Google AdSense, which can use cookies. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first.
  • We never sell your personal information.

Who we are

This website, workcalc.co.uk, is run by WorkCalc UK ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller for personal information collected through the site. You can reach us about privacy at any time through our Contact page.

Information you enter into our calculators

Salaries, hours, pension percentages and every other figure you enter are calculated by code that runs in your own browser. We do not send those figures to our server, or save them in cookies or local storage. If you use the "Copy link to these results" button on the salary calculator, your inputs are placed in the part of the link after the # symbol so that the link opens with the same figures. Browsers do not send that part of a link to our server, and nothing is kept once you close the page. When you close or refresh the page, they are gone.

Information collected automatically

Server and security logs

Like almost every website, our hosting provider, Hostinger, records basic technical information when your browser requests a page: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, your browser type and any referring page. These logs are used to keep the site secure, fix errors and deliver pages quickly.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used, for example which calculators are most popular, how visitors arrive and which devices they use. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser details, and how long you spend on the site. We use these reports in aggregate to improve the site; we do not use them to identify you.

Google Fonts

Some text styles are loaded from Google Fonts. To deliver them, your browser connects to Google's servers, which receive your IP address. Google states that it does not use this information to build advertising profiles.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. The table below lists the cookies this site may set.

Advertising cookies, such as __gads, __gpi and IDEGoogle and its advertising partnersShow adverts, limit how often you see them, measure performance and, with your consent, personalise adsUp to 13 months

Advertising cookies are only set if adverts are shown on the site. Where UK law requires consent for a cookie, we will ask before it is set, and you can change your choice at any time.

Advertising

We may use Google AdSense to show adverts, which helps keep our calculators free. When adverts are shown:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.
  • Visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland are shown a consent message before personalised advertising cookies are used. If you do not consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies for purposes such as frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement.

You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google My Ad Center, and learn more about opting out of third-party advertising cookies at Your Online Choices. To see how Google uses information from sites that use its services, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Comments and messages you send us

If you leave a comment, WordPress collects the name, email address and website you enter, the comment itself, your IP address and your browser details to help detect spam. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. Your name, comment and profile picture become public; your email address does not.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include, and we use it only to reply and to deal with your message.

How and why we use your information

Under UK data protection law we must have a lawful basis for using personal information. We rely on:

  • Legitimate interests for security logs, fixing problems, answering messages, moderating comments and understanding how the site is used, where the law allows this without consent.
  • Consent for cookies that are not strictly necessary and are not covered by a legal exemption, including advertising cookies and personalised advertising.

Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site:

  • Hostinger, which hosts the website and its server logs
  • Google, for Google Analytics, Google Fonts and, where used, Google AdSense (see the Google Privacy Policy)
  • Automattic, which runs Gravatar, if you leave a comment

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our visitors and the site.

International transfers

Some of these providers, including Google, may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the International Data Transfer Agreement.

How long we keep information

  • Google Analytics user-level data is kept for the retention period set in our account, which cannot exceed 14 months; aggregated reports are kept longer.
  • Server logs are kept for a short period set by our hosting provider, normally no more than a few months.
  • Comments are kept until they are deleted, and emails for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct or delete it
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
  • ask for your information in a portable format, where this applies

To use any of these rights, contact us through the Contact page. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
